Eleanor is a PhD candidate in Public Health, Director of Singapore's only free addiction recovery center, and a trauma-informed psychotherapist. Her work bridges sexual health, substance use recovery, and community engagement with marginalized populations through equity-centered research and direct practice.
Chemsex - the intentional use of drugs to enhance or facilitate sexual experiences - presents unique recovery challenges as substances become deeply intertwined with sexual identity and pleasure. Current abstinence-based recovery models focus on sobriety but fail to address the complex aftermath: how individuals reconnect with sexual pleasure and intimacy without substances. My fellowship project will develop community-engaged, trauma-informed interventions to support sexual wellbeing in chemsex recovery. Through co-design with marginalized communities most affected, the initiative creates holistic recovery frameworks that integrate sexual health with addiction treatment, challenging paradigms that separate substance recovery from sexual pleasure and intimacy restoration.
