Jaime is a Chilean sociologist and a strong advocate for sexual and reproductive health and rights. He has worked and volunteered with different local and international organizations, including PAHO-WHO, Escuela Transdisciplinaria de Sexualidad (ETSEX), Fundación Chile Positivo, Y+ Global and Youth Against Aids. Over the last few years, he has developed a series of projects within these organizations to address the challenges and problems affecting communities like people living with HIV, the LGBTQ+ community and young people. In 2019 he developed a set of training workshops addressing LGBTQ health disparities, in 2020 a training program for young people living with HIV in Chile, and in 2021 a research project on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the lives of young people living with HIV in Latin America. Today, Jaime acts as ‘Projects and fellowship coordinator’ and is in charge of overseeing the development of the newest version of The Pleasure Project’s Pleasure Fellowship.

Jaime and the Pleasure Fellowship

During the Pleasure Fellowship, Jaime worked on an online campaign on anal sexual health aimed at men who have sex with other men (MSM) in Chile. With hopes to reduce fissures, STI acquisitions and to ensure more pleasant anal sex practices among MSM, he worked along different organizations, professionals and advocates to make it more visible. Jaime remains engaged with The Pleasure Project, working as its new ‘projects and fellowship coordinator’.

What they’re up to now

Since their participation in the Pleasure Fellowship, Jaime has been engaged in different projects with local organizations in Chile and international ones. They’ve worked along with the Global Advisory Board on Sexual Health and Wellbeing (GAB) as well as Y+ Global, in different projects related to training and research. Jaime continues to engage with The Pleasure Project, through his role as ‘projects and fellowship coordinator’ but also through other activities including facilitating sessions, training opportunities and others.

Anal sexual health campaign

This anal sexual health campaign consisted of a series of informative graphics and illustration which were shared online, throughout different social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Several local advocacy organizations and right based enterprises working in sexuality and sex education, like Acción Gay, Fundación Chile Positivo, Corporación Miles, Escuela Transdisciplinaria de Sexualidad (ETSex), Japi Jane and Regina Educa, joined the online campaign. Additionally, several Instagram Live sessions were conducted and archived by the organizations, to address questions on sexual anal health and experiences of pleasure including hygiene, links to mental health and use of sex toys.

“For a long time, I was looking for spaces to connect with other advocates on sexual and reproductive health and particularly those interested in pleasure. Having had that possibility to connect and learn from other people’s experiences around the world was very fulfilling and it’s allowed me to stay connected and collaborate with them as a network, even after the fellowship was over”
